Moira and The Man in Black in XMFC.
Bobby’s parents in X2 weren’t portrayed so badly either - his mother’s reaction in particular was pretty standard for what I’d expect from a clueless but non-hateful parent of a gay teen who’s just come out. I think she would have come around eventually (in fact, I bet she still did, though getting past John’s temper tantrum probably made the process take quite a bit longer).
So humans are not ALL portrayed as totally irredeemably prejudiced in the movies….
Truth, I wish we could see more of this because I think that people would be prejudiced but… so many?!
Pretty much. I mean…..look at us. Do you think we’d all of us freak out? Especially in this day and age….college activists would be all over that….
Not saying there wouldn’t be a crap load of bad because there seriously would be. But yea, I think there would be a bit more nice people than are shown.
One important thing to remember, before blaming humans too much for anti-mutant prejudice, is that we are often talking about some very dangerous powers, that may or may not even be under conscious control. Imagine baby-sitting Alex Summers when he’s having a tantrum. The Neanderthal has some pretty darn valid reasons to fear homo superior, and they have less to do with evolution than with property damage and hospital bills.
